Woodson's Local Tap + Kitchen

Woodson’s Local Tap + Kitchen
Conroe, Texas
The Woodson’s
½ Pound Patty, Bacon Jam, Mac & Cheese, Bacon, and Fried Onions on a Brioche Bun
$14.99

For my first review, I opted to go with a place that I was very familiar with the food and already knew some of the menu, and while Woodson’s is a great place for many things, I think I would opt to go for their famous Giant Pretzels rather than their Burger.
The Woodson’s Burger deserves a 5 for creativity for putting such a smorgasbord of things on its burger, but honestly it was TOO much. The conflicting textures and tastes didn’t mesh well and the individual item’s great taste by themselves got lost in the shuffle.
Expanding on that, the Mac and Cheese was great by itself, I could eat a whole plate of the fried onions if one would let me, and the meat was cooked to perfection. BUT once we stacked it all together, it became a mess. This bun of the burger fell apart within the first minute due to the cream of the mac and cheese, mixing with the liquidity of the bacon jam causing it to be almost impossible to eat as a handheld burger and turning into a fork and knife procedure.
This burger weighs in at a whopping 1 pound & 3.5 ounces. When we factor in the fact that the patty itself is a half-pound, which leaves about 11 ounces for the buns and toppings. This burger DEFINETLY gives you a good amount of food for the prices, and can easily be shared between two people and still fill them up.

VERDICT: 3.5 out of 5 Stars.

And so the Chase continues…

The Dugout

The Dugout Texarkana, Arkansas Double Header & The Slugger Double Header-2 Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, Bacon, Cheddar Cheese, Single Patty The Slugger-Single with Cheddar Cheese, Grilled Pineapple, Bang Bang Sauce, served on a White Bun $8.99 (Double Header), $6.29 (The Slugger) Over the past few weeks, I have been very busy with work and then on vacation road tripping to Nashville, Tennessee. So naturally on this road trip I had to get some burgers, and I decided to get multiple burgers at each stop to make up for all the weeks that I missed. The first burger I tried was the Double Header. In the easiest way to describe it, this was a burger patty smashed between 2 grilled cheese sandwiches. Now this doesn't seem like the most creative burger in the world, but it was FUN burger. And it was REALLY good. The Dugout is a hidden gem in Texarkana, their burgers are great! Now while I would love to give this burger a lot of points, I have to take into consideratio...

The Kitchen

The Kitchen The Woodlands, TX Cowboy Burger White Cheddar, Yellow Cheddar, Avocado, Bacon, Mixed Greens, Jalapenos, Onions, Tomatoes, Dill Pickles, Akaushi Wagyu on a Brioche Bun $13.50 For this week, I kept it very local and went to an establishment that was right across the street from my work. Going into it, I honestly didn't know what to expect because I had seen very good reviews on Facebook, but no one I personally knew had been to it so it was a bit of an enigma, and let me tell you, Facebook hit right on the money. The burger itself SOUNDS a lot bigger than it is. Don't get me wrong, it's no small burger, but just from the list of ingredients it sounds like it was going to be big, instead it was just tall. When looking at what all is on this burger, it's already got to get points for creativity. There's like a whole party of ingredients going on here The first thing I noticed was the patty. Not only do they melt their cheeses on to the p...

Bar Louie

Bar Louie The Woodlands, TX Bourbon BBQ Burger House-made Bourbon BBQ Sauce, White Cheddar, Cream Cheese, Applewood Smoked Bacon, Crispy Onion Strings $12.50 While I do try my hardest to avoid the national chains in order to give more recognition to the mom and pop burger places out here trying to gain the success of the chains, I have to say, I was pretty blown off my feet by Bar Louie's Bourbon BBQ Burger. (Say that 5 times fast) The most interesting thing about this burger (and one thing I sadly had to dock them a little bit for) was the cream cheese. Cream Cheese on a burger tasted VERY good, I liked it for the first few bites, but then I kept hitting secret pockets of Cream Cheese that in some bites, that was all I was tasting. In moderation, this is an amazing topping to have on a BBQ burger. As we flip to the other cheese on the burger, we had white cheddar. White Cheddar is an excellent choice for a BBQ flavored burger, and while it was melted on to the...
