The Dugout

The Dugout
Texarkana, Arkansas
Double Header & The Slugger
Double Header-2 Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, Bacon, Cheddar Cheese, Single Patty
The Slugger-Single with Cheddar Cheese, Grilled Pineapple, Bang Bang Sauce, served on a White Bun
$8.99 (Double Header), $6.29 (The Slugger)

Over the past few weeks, I have been very busy with work and then on vacation road tripping to Nashville, Tennessee. So naturally on this road trip I had to get some burgers, and I decided to get multiple burgers at each stop to make up for all the weeks that I missed.
The first burger I tried was the Double Header. In the easiest way to describe it, this was a burger patty smashed between 2 grilled cheese sandwiches. Now this doesn't seem like the most creative burger in the world, but it was FUN burger. And it was REALLY good. The Dugout is a hidden gem in Texarkana, their burgers are great! Now while I would love to give this burger a lot of points, I have to take into consideration that it ISN'T the most creative thing out there, despite how good it was.
The second burger I had was The Slugger. The Slugger was recommended by the person working as their most popular burger and for good reason. The Dugout already knows how to cook and season the patty, and then they decided to be daring and add Grilled Pineapple? This will start a whole new argument between the people who believe pineapple belongs on pizza vs. the people who say it doesn't. The grilled pineapple was such an interesting addition that added a little sweetness to the burger. The Bang Bang sauce was described by the worker as a "sweet sriracha" which while I don't think was bad, was the reason the burger didn't score higher. The sweetness came through more than the spicy on the Bang Bang sauce and that with the pineapple, made the burger just a little too sweet. I think that if they had used a sriracha that WASN'T sweet, we would scoring this burger a lot higher. But overall, one of the best burgers I have had in recent memory.

VERDICT:  (Double Header) 3.5 out of 5 Stars.
VERDICT:  (The Slugger) 4 out of 5 Stars.

And so the Chase continues…

Walden War-Tejas Cafe

Tejas Cafe (Mariel's Deli) & (Walden Market) Montgomery, TX Tejas Burger Cheese, Jalapenos, Onions, Cilanto & Chipotle Mayo on a Jalapeno Bun (with Ketchup at Tejas Cafe Walden Market) $7 For this week, I had a friend recommend me a place to go but when looking up the place, I found that there were two of the same name on the same road and when I couldn't get a hold of said friend, I had a very tough decision to make. I either tried one and hoped it was the right one, or I TRY THEM BOTH. I got both, and therefore we have the War on Walden Road between the Two Tejas Cafes. Now both Tejas Cafes are within Shell gast stations on Walden road, one in the Shell that has "Mariel's Deli" and one that has "Walden Market". Before I start, I can tell there is some skepticism, "You want me to eat gas station food?" Trust me, I had THE SAME THOUGHT before I was led to this place, but holy shit was I wrong. THIS PLACE IS GREAT. Ri...

Whistle Stop Cafe

Whistle Stop Cafe Conroe, TX First Class Burger Swiss Cheese, Avocado, Grilled Onions, Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato, Pickles, Mayo, & Mustard $10 While the name may be "First Class" Burger, I think that this burger has a little bit of work ahead of it if it wants to live up to that name. The Whistle Stop Cafe seems like a nice, quaint little cafe that seemed to have a bunch of regulars, but if I had to guess they were there for the country style menu of chicken fried steaks, chicken 'n' dumplings, & pork chops. Not the burgers. First of all, this burger had WAY too much going on. This was like a party that gets too big and gets shut down because of all the noise. Because it had so much on it, the bread was hard to hold everything and ended up getting soggy and falling apart before I could finish, so hard to give points there. I will say that before, the bread was pretty good in flavor and soft. The other negative things I found with this burger...
