Walden War-Tejas Cafe

Tejas Cafe (Mariel's Deli) & (Walden Market)
Montgomery, TX
Tejas Burger
Cheese, Jalapenos, Onions, Cilanto & Chipotle Mayo on a Jalapeno Bun (with Ketchup at Tejas Cafe Walden Market)
$7

For this week, I had a friend recommend me a place to go but when looking up the place, I found that there were two of the same name on the same road and when I couldn't get a hold of said friend, I had a very tough decision to make. I either tried one and hoped it was the right one, or I TRY THEM BOTH. I got both, and therefore we have the War on Walden Road between the Two Tejas Cafes.
Now both Tejas Cafes are within Shell gast stations on Walden road, one in the Shell that has "Mariel's Deli" and one that has "Walden Market".
Before I start, I can tell there is some skepticism, "You want me to eat gas station food?" Trust me, I had THE SAME THOUGHT before I was led to this place, but holy shit was I wrong. THIS PLACE IS GREAT.
Right off the top, you can tell the main reason I like it. SMC. If you are going to be in the greatest burger conversation, you can't just throw a slice of cheese on the burger right before it goes out and call it a day. This place melts and cooks their cheese on to their meat and they give a generous helping of it.
The next thing you will be able to notice about the burger is the jalapenos. Now I prefer to have the pickled jalapenos on my burger, but these freshly chopped jalapenos were just as good (I just prefer pickled because they aren't as crunchy) and they added a huge kick to the burger.
The onions and chipotle mayo on the burger while a bit noticeable, I felt took a back seat to the rest of the flavors going on with the burger and that was OK with me, because I felt like this burger was all about the spice, which brings me to my next point.
The Jalapeno Bun. hands down the best jalapeno bun that I have had yet in my travels. This bun was soft yet had a huge amount of spice within it. I was worried near the end that it was going to fall apart, but it managed to hold out through the entirety of the burger.
The patty itself was also awesome. It was super greasy and full of juice and it seemed like they seasoned it with some sort of spice that even gave the meat a little kick. It was tough, but didn't fall apart easily (which I actually prefer more).
Now as far as difference, there was only one. The Tejas Cafe at Walden Market for some reason added Ketchup to their burger and personally for me, it killed the burger. What was going for a super spicy burger with some much authentic and fresh flavors was brought down by coating the bottom bun with some Heinz ketchup. I was so let down by that burger.
So as a result, it's clear cut that the Tejas Cafe inside Mariel's Deli on Walden road is the winner!
All in all, this burger was a HUGE surprise to the skeptic Chase that walked into the gas station and now I am just waiting to run out of gas in my car so I can find an excuse to go get another, as you should be!

VERDICT: 4.5 out of 5 Stars for Tejas Cafe (Mariel's Deli)/3.5 out of 5 Stars for Tejas Cafe (Walden Market)

And so the Chase continues…

Southwell's Hamburger Grill

Southwell's Hamburger Grill Houston, TX Bacon Cheeseburger Mayo, Mustard, Lettuce, Pickles, Tomatoes, and Onions with American Cheese and Bacon. $6.40 For this week's burger trip, I decided to try out Southwell's Hamburger Grill in Houston, TX. Now I have lived in Houston my whole life and I have never heard about his place (despite it having 4 locations in the Houston area) until I looked through a burger suggestion post on Facebook, and frankly, I probably could have gone the rest of my life without hearing about it. Now before anyone jumps to any super negative conclusions, the burger wasn't "bad". It just was not what I was looking for. The meat was a pretty good size and was pretty juicy but didn't really have any seasoning, the bun seemed to be a typical hamburger bun out of a package, and the cheese seemed to be just a regular old slice of American cheese thrown on at the last parts of the grilling process. I didn't like how...

Omega Grill

Omega Grill Spring, TX BBQ Burger Farm 44 Meat, BBQ Sauce, Bacon, Cheddar Cheese, & Fried Onions $12.99 For my first review back home, I decided to go to a place that I have always seen but never really tried until now and I am kind of mad at myself for not trying it to begin with. As I was researching this place, I found online that they have an award winning Breakfast Burger and I was very eager to try it as I hadn't really had a breakfast burger on this blog yet, so it was something new, but when I arrived at the place, it turns out that their prices online were wrong and this burger was going to be $17. I frankly just wasn't willing to take a chance that day on something I might not like, so I opted with what the waitress said was their 2nd most popular option, their BBQ burger, and I wasn't let down. First of all, I thought the presentation was great. How they stacked the onion rings and ingredients was super fun and I love it. But let's get ...
