This week the Burger Chase has brought us to a really niche little spot in Spring, TX called the Thistle Draftshop. I'll have to admit, from my first glance at this place, I was a little skeptical of if they would be able to deliver on a good burger, because it seemed like one of those places that were just focused on their craft beers and they just "had food" just to have it there. But I was proven WAY wrong. The burgers here are great.
I apologize ahead of time, because I forgot to get a picture of the burger I actually had, so I had to use one that I found online, but rest assured, the burger looks just as good as the one they used for the marketing pic above.
Now I am not a big fan of bleu cheese, so I actually had my burger without it, but I am not letting that factor into the score, but who knows, maybe they have awful bleu cheese and it ruins the burger completely, but I cannot say. I did have the smoked habanero bacon (cooked a little crispy, of course) and it was great. The flavor and spice on it was a great kick to the burger and delivered everything I would want from bacon. The caramelized beer onions were also very good, I would say they were in the upper tiers of some of the caramelized onions that I have had lately. I honestly did not taste very much garlic ailoi (compared to a couple weeks ago when it was caked on to my burger) so it was interesting, but I think I would have enjoyed having a little bit more on it.
The meat was great. It was juicy and I could taste a very flavorful seasoning on it. It crumbled apart and wasn't too chewy, and had a little bit of pink and wasn't overly charred anywhere.
The bun was somewhat interesting as pictured above. It didn't fall apart from the juices and grease from the burger so that's a big plus, and it tasted like it was buttered pretty well making it a very flavorful piece of bread.
I don't have many complaints about this burger beyond the aioli, except the size of the burger. The burger I received was very small and for a $12 burger, I would have enjoyed to be a little more full from it, but it does seem like this establishment focuses more on quality of food than quantity, which you can't hate on when you're looking for a good burger.

VERDICT: 4 out of 5 Stars.

And so the Chase continues…

Walden War-Tejas Cafe

Tejas Cafe (Mariel's Deli) & (Walden Market) Montgomery, TX Tejas Burger Cheese, Jalapenos, Onions, Cilanto & Chipotle Mayo on a Jalapeno Bun (with Ketchup at Tejas Cafe Walden Market) $7 For this week, I had a friend recommend me a place to go but when looking up the place, I found that there were two of the same name on the same road and when I couldn't get a hold of said friend, I had a very tough decision to make. I either tried one and hoped it was the right one, or I TRY THEM BOTH. I got both, and therefore we have the War on Walden Road between the Two Tejas Cafes. Now both Tejas Cafes are within Shell gast stations on Walden road, one in the Shell that has "Mariel's Deli" and one that has "Walden Market". Before I start, I can tell there is some skepticism, "You want me to eat gas station food?" Trust me, I had THE SAME THOUGHT before I was led to this place, but holy shit was I wrong. THIS PLACE IS GREAT. Ri...

Omega Grill

Omega Grill Spring, TX BBQ Burger Farm 44 Meat, BBQ Sauce, Bacon, Cheddar Cheese, & Fried Onions $12.99 For my first review back home, I decided to go to a place that I have always seen but never really tried until now and I am kind of mad at myself for not trying it to begin with. As I was researching this place, I found online that they have an award winning Breakfast Burger and I was very eager to try it as I hadn't really had a breakfast burger on this blog yet, so it was something new, but when I arrived at the place, it turns out that their prices online were wrong and this burger was going to be $17. I frankly just wasn't willing to take a chance that day on something I might not like, so I opted with what the waitress said was their 2nd most popular option, their BBQ burger, and I wasn't let down. First of all, I thought the presentation was great. How they stacked the onion rings and ingredients was super fun and I love it. But let's get ...

Lord's Kitchen

Lord's Kitchen San Antonio, TX 1/2 lb Cheeseburger Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, Pickle, Onion $10.25 I usually love my trips out of town because I get to go to a burger place that I don't have access to on a daily basis within my local area, but instead I was left with a severe feeling of disappointment on my drive home after eating a burger from the Lord's Kitchen. I opted to go with a regular cheeseburger because I wanted a full meal of fries and a drink and looking back now, I should maybe have gotten a specialty burger instead. The toppings that came on this burger were all the average things that you would expect from a burger place and it didn't taste like they were high quality, now they did not taste like they were of bad quality, just an average kind of taste. The meat, which I feel like should be the thing that you should take pride on, was bland. It honestly tasted to me like a burger that one may find at a drive thru like Burger King or Wend...
