I want to start by saying Merry Christmas to everyone (or anyone) who has followed me throughout this year and with the year coming to a close, I hope to close out on some strong burgers, and this one did not let me down on that.
Katz's Deli is this 24/7 Deli/Restaurant that is in front of my neighborhood and despite driving by it all the time, I never stop, and now i regret it. They had a good selection of creative burgers, but the server said that this one is the most popular and one of his favorites, so I went ahead and took his word for it, and was not let down, but enough gushing over it, let's break it down!
First of all, this thing is HUGE. I could only eat about half of it and had to save the rest to go, as you can see from the picture, it's just tall because of not only how thick the patty is, but because of the jalapeno bite on it, which let's go ahead and get into that because I can't wait. The jalapeno cream cheese bites on this burger are the best addition and probably one of my new favorite toppings to go on a burger (never even crossed my mind to throw one on a burger before). Not only does it add a spicy kick, but the cream cheese was just a great flavor and you could tell that this thing was just out of the fryer and fresh.
Circling back to the patty itself, I didn't really feel any type of way about it. It wasn't as juicy as I would have liked, it seemed like because it was so thick and big, that maybe it didn't soak up as much of the grease that I usually like and it wasn't really seasoned, but it was filling and didn't taste like it was some low quality meat so it wasn't a complete loss.
As far as the other toppings, the lettuce and tomato were just there, they honestly don't do anything to enhance the burger, but the nosh sauce did. The server explained the nosh sauce as a sort of sweet barbecue sauce, which was a pretty apt description of it. While I don't think it holds a candle to the Dr. Pepper BBQ sauce I had earlier this year, it was definitely better than a regular barbecue sauce that I could just get anywhere. The cheddar cheese was honestly nonexistent. I don't know if it had to do with the cream cheese being overpowering or the fact that it just didn't look like they used a very big piece of cheese, but it just honestly didn't hit any of my taste buds. The bacon was good, very flavorful, albeit not crispy like I like it, but that's a preference. The bun was thick and flavorful just like I like all my breads to be, so there were no points taken off there.
The only issues I really had with this burger was the nonexistent taste of the cheese and the meat not being as flavorful as I would have liked it to be. Honestly this burger was flirting with top burger status, but just didn't quite make it, though I'm sure if I went back a different day and maybe I got a patty that soaks in flavor more, or a bigger piece of cheese, that it would probably hit it!

VERDICT: 4 out of 5 Stars.
And so the Chase continues…
