Whataburger

Whataburger Texas Patty Melt Two American Beef Patties, Grilled Onions, Two slices of Monterrey Jack cheese and Creamy Pepper Sauce $4.94 Living in Texas, it is only natural that I at some point go to Whataburger. Whataburger almost has a cult like following among most Texans, and while I'm not saying that it's got bad food, I think some people OVER hype the burgers here. When deciding on what to eat, the most popular burger that most people will tell you to go with at Whataburger is the Patty Melt, and to give Whataburger credit, that IS their best thing since the A1 Thick and Hearty is no longer there. The Patty Melt is of course served on toast, which tastes amazing being thrown on to the same grill they grill the meat on so it sucks up so much grease and flavor that the bread is one of the best parts of the whole burger. Moving on to the toppings, the grilled onions are so-so, they're basic fast food quality. The slices of Monterrey Jack are similar to t...

Southwell's Hamburger Grill

Southwell's Hamburger Grill Houston, TX Bacon Cheeseburger Mayo, Mustard, Lettuce, Pickles, Tomatoes, and Onions with American Cheese and Bacon. $6.40 For this week's burger trip, I decided to try out Southwell's Hamburger Grill in Houston, TX. Now I have lived in Houston my whole life and I have never heard about his place (despite it having 4 locations in the Houston area) until I looked through a burger suggestion post on Facebook, and frankly, I probably could have gone the rest of my life without hearing about it. Now before anyone jumps to any super negative conclusions, the burger wasn't "bad". It just was not what I was looking for. The meat was a pretty good size and was pretty juicy but didn't really have any seasoning, the bun seemed to be a typical hamburger bun out of a package, and the cheese seemed to be just a regular old slice of American cheese thrown on at the last parts of the grilling process. I didn't like how...

P. Terry's Burger Stand

P. Terry's Burger Stand Austin, TX Cheeseburger Natural Black Angus Beef Patty, American Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, Special Sauce $2.85 During a trip to Austin, I decided to stop by an Austin exclusive burger stand chain that I was told by a coworker was a pretty good place, and while my wallet thanked me for the least expensive meal of the trip, my stomach did not. The burger was very small (which one might expect for not even breaking $3), but it was not very filling as far as meals go, now of course once you add in the fries and milkshake it was good, but burger wise, very small. The meat tasted like basic fast food meat and wouldn't blow any minds in the burger community so it was hard to see what was the big draw of the place. The secret sauce is a combination of mild Russian dressing and american cheese melted together, which I wouldn't say was "bad" but it was so slathered on that the sauce overpowered everything else so I was just tasting t...

Chunky's Burgers

Chunky's Burgers San Antonio, TX Texas Kicker & Hickory Burger (Texas Kicker) Homemade Queso, Bacon, Bottle Caps, on Texas Toast. (Hickory Burger) Tangy BBQ Sauce, Onion Rings, Cheese, and Bacon (Texas Kicker) $7.19 (Hickory Burger) $7.59 On my recent trip to San Antonio, I made sure to go to a burger place that I was familiar with from YEARS and years. ago . Chunky's Burgers for anyone who doesn't know, was a burger place that was featured on Man vs. Food for having one of the hottest burgers in country called "The Four Horsemen". The Four Horsemen burger has 4 different spice qualities on it being: Jalapeno and Serrano peppers, Habanero sauce,, and the Ghost (Jolokia) pepper. It is crazy hot, and while I myself would never eat it, I had two roommates who attempted it years ago and got physically sick doing it, it was funny as I was there enjoying my nice cheeseburger, but I digress, that's not why we are here. This time, when I hit Chunky...

Burgers Fries 'N' Things

Burgers Fries 'N' Things Houston, TX Cheeseburger American Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion on white bun $3.35 This place was described as a hidden gem of Houston in the burger game, and I am inclined to be indifferent to that statement. Referred by an article to this place, I had no idea of what to expect. Going into the trip, I knew the place was "cash only" so that was interesting right off the back. Pulling up to the location, it is essentially a small shack on the corner of two streets with a little order window and no seating or tables to eat your food, so it's a grab and go, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I tend to like to eat my food as soon as I get it for maximum flavor grading. On the plus side, I really loved the price of this burger, only $3.35 for the burger and $5.79 for the meal. That is pretty comparable to a fast food burger meal. Now when we get to the actual burger, I have to meet it with mixed reviews. The meat its...

The Mosquito Cafe

The Mosquito Cafe Galveston, TX Southwest Green Chile Burger Angus Beef Patty topped with Spicy Roasted Chopped Green Chiles, Tillamook Cheddar, Tomato, Lettuce, Garlic Herb Mayo on a Pattycake Hamburger Bun $11.99 Over the weekend I had a family trip to Galveston, TX to hit the beach before the summer ended and after we had gotten our fill of sand, sun, and seagulls we had to make the hard decision on where to go for lunch. If you haven't gone to Galveston before, it is filled with a lot of seafood places which I'm sure can make a good burger, but I decided to rely on a local's suggestion and heading to a small renovated house/cafe to try a burger. Right off the back, the burger was great in size. I almost could not eat all of it and that was with my fiance stealing bites occasionally. There is no doubt you are getting your money's worth here at The Mosquito Cafe. Moving on to the taste of the meat itself, the burger was very juicy and filled with greas...

Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Splashtown

Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Splashtown Spring, TX Bacon Cheeseburger Bacon, American Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion on white bun $12.99 If your going to Hurricane Harbor Splashtown in Spring, Texas you are probably not going for the food, and honestly you should probably keep it that way and if you HAVE to eat while you're there, there is a Dippin Dots. First off, there is no selection to the burgers. You can have a burger with cheese and bacon, just 1 of those, or none of those, so leaves little to the imagination on the creative front. Secondly, the burgers are not cooked to order. This particular burger was put under the heat lamp while I was in line (a very long line), and given to me so it was still RELATIVELY fresh, but not really. Being under the heat lamp, it dried up any juiciness the burger could have possibly possessed so it had none. There was no seasoning (or if there way, it was minuscule), and the toppings were left out in a large serve yourself bar w...
